I'd appreciate any ideas that others come up with. If this thread stays active I'll post more as I figure things out. The Shogun records 4.2.2 but I am still seeing some banding and artifacts with color correction and some effects, making me thing it's not "true" 4.2.2 somehow. I've asked about this on the 70D camera-specific forum but honestly, they seem pretty geek-snobby and either provide unhelpful and condescending answers or no answer at all.Īlso, I am not sure what output compression I am getting, (4.1.1 or 4.2.0 or 4.2.2). ML is supposed to help with that but the manual is so outdated that I can't seem to find the right combination of settings. The most pervasive problem I am experiencing is that HDMI was expected to help me overcome the 30 minute limit, but the 70D drops the mirror at 30 minutes, disabling Live View and therefore video, no matter what settings are chosen. Not a lot of success yet but recording DNxHR is working so far. I am currently trying to experiment with recording Canon Raw to the Atomos Shogun Flame via HDMI. There are a few annoying bugs (display and menus redrawing every few seconds for example) and the documentation is so far behind that it is all but useless. ML will indeed offer clean output via HDMI on the 70D although it is currently a work in progress. Similar to past 5 Min Portraits I had never done a photo shoot with the Canon 80D or kit lens. The Challenge: Use a Canon 80D and kit 18-135 lens for a 5 Min Portrait at Norman Porter Jean Company. I'm using a Canon 70D with firmware 1.1.12 and the latest build of ML.
